RAKO at the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums in Qatar

RAKO supplied tiles for two stadiums in Qatar, where the 2022 FIFA World Cup is currently taking place.
One of them is the Education City Stadium, located in the Qatari city of Al Rajan on the grounds of several university campuses (Qatar Foundation's Education City). It has been nicknamed "the diamond in the desert". The diamond-shaped stadium sparkles during the day and shines at night.
With 20% of the building materials being certified as eco-friendly, the stadium ranks among the most environmentally friendly stadiums in the world. In May 2019, Education City Stadium was awarded a five-star GSAS rating.
For this stadium, white matt tiles of the SYSTEM series in 30x60 cm format were used in combination with white tiles in a fine granite design in 30x30 cm format. In total, RAKO supplied 10,500 m2 of ceramic tiles.
Al Thumama Stadium is located near Doha's Hamad International Airport. The architectural design, by Ibrahim Jaidah, principal architect at Arab Engineering, draws inspiration from the traditional taqiyah hat worn by men and boys throughout the Middle East. The stadium is surrounded by a 50,000m² public park and has a seating capacity of 40,000. After the World Cup, half of the seats will be removed from the stadium and donated to other countries.
RAKO supplied 20 000 m² of ceramic tiles for the stadium. In addition to 60 x 60 cm tiles, 60 x 120 cm tiles in three colour shades were custom-made to exact specifications.
