The RAKO win helped to change a 50 year old bathroom into a stylish and timeless intrior.
A tiny bathroom of Mrs. Jaroslava looks now beautiful, but also practical and functional. Her granddaughter Pavla actually designed it exactly to her grandmother’s needs.
A house in Bohdalov, that has been three generations of Rems´ family, was originally blacksmith’s shop. During one of the reconstructions almost 50 years ago, the original bathroom of Jaroslava was also built downstairs. But recently, the yellow tiling has been falling apart and it has becoming more difficult for Jaroslava. Maybe, the reconstruction would only have been thought of, if Pavla did not sign her grandmother up for the RAKO competition. „Granny, do you know this bathroom?“ her granddaughter asked when she showed Jaroslava a picture of her own bathroom in the magazine after the announcement.
After that, is was done in no time. The granddaughter alone designed the new look of the bathroom for her grandmother. Being a designer, she has a lot of experience. The visualisation of the bathroom with the Casa series, where the particular ceramic elements were laid out, was prepared in the RAKO creative shop. The Casa series, format 30 x 60 cm, is timeless with its simple style, the combination of grey and white complements the small space with no windows. A horizontal format helps to lower the ceiling optically and to broaden the bathroom. The wall tiles match with large format (60 x 60 cm) grey-beige floor tiles Trend. Apart from the wall tiles, the prize was even enough for chemical products for building RAKO SYSTEM.
The Rems´ family approached the reconstruction in a complex way and „undressed“ the space to the bricks. In the new bathroom, there are brand new distribution systems for water and electricity. The bath tub was replaced with a simple shower enclosure without a tub, that takes up the whole width of the bathroom. It provides the grandmother with a more comfortable entry and a freedom of movement during showering and even a seat fit in here. Even if Jaroslava was a little concerned about this arrangement of the shower enclosure, today she is very happy with it. Water runs easily down the groove and does not reach behind the door. The shower enclosure with tiles at the bottom of the shower is very easy to maintain. With the help of ceramic mosaic 5 x 5 cm, a useful niche to store soaps and shampoos was created as well.
Practical bathroom furniture was designed for the grandmother by her granddaughter Pavla and made by a carpenter from the neighbourhood.
„Now, when it is all done, I am very happy about it,“ Jaroslava says, smiling, and she enjoys the new bathroom. And although the bathroom is „just a little bit larger than the lavatory“, as a bricklayer said smiling during the construction, the grandmother is enthusiastic about it. And a proof, that it was all done well is the fact, that sometimes her son or grandchildren swing by to take a shower.
